The Training

Chris Baran has owned a salon or two. He became an owner because he was frustrated that his boss couldn’t give him the training he wanted to advance his skills. “Fine,” he said to himself, “I’ll go do it myself. And just watch: I’ll train MY people to be the best.”

And that’s exactly what he did. And it was a wild success. They were booked out months in advance. But as his business did better and better, his time got squeezed managing it all.

And sure enough, even though his stylists were making great money, they began to wander off for more exciting opportunities. He brought on new people but he was so busy picking up the slack that he couldn’t commit enough time to train his new hires up to his standards.

Clients could sense it, of course. A slip in service. A trickle of tension. A crackle of chaos. And slowly but surely the salon wasn’t so busy any more. Now he had to stay behind the chair because he couldn’t afford not to.

What he needed was someone at least at his level to take over the training so he could focus on building the business. Of course there was no way he could afford that. It was an unsolvable problem.

So Chris got to work solving it.

He created a principle-based cutting and finishing system that quickly and clearly communicates everything a stylist needs to know. Rather than learn a cut, they learn the why behind all cutting. This was a huge idea. With one easy system, stylists have the power to create any cut, any style, any time.

Today, his Principle-Based Design & Finishing is used by thousands of stylists in salons and schools all over the world.

Now, salons can ensure every stylist has the same high quality skillset. And because they feel empowered, they also feel loyal and happy with the owner that invested in them. Clients can tell.

With a lifetime of learning how to become a better educator, Chris realized he had more to share. Together with his good friend, master educator Chris Moody, he created the Superstar Educator program to share everything they knew about training in the salon, in schools, and on stage.

His years of consultation with the most successful salons in the country led Chris to answer their biggest request – how to get associates on the floor much faster. He took his 40+ years of experience training and behind the chair and he created the Salon Associate Accelerator.

In just two weeks, associates learn all the skills to support the salon, freeing up time for more bookings and upsell services. In three months, they are able to take their own clients. Owners get their time back. Educators have time to elevate the whole team. Associates get world-class training that gets them on the floor faster than ever before possible.
